Another important part of the Rehab Department is Audiology. The department is staffed by one contract Audiologists who provides services on a weekly basis. This includes differential diagnostic audiology services, hearing aid evaluations and fittings for children and adults. An audiologist is a professional who specializes in evaluating and treating people with hearing loss. An audiologist has received a master’s or doctoral degree from an accredited university graduate program. Audiologists are trained to evaluate the hearing of infants to older adults, to evaluate special aspects of audition and balance, and to recommend and fit hearing aids and other rehabilitative devices. Audiologists work in a variety of clinical settings: private practice, hospitals, non-profit agencies, physician’s offices, and schools.
