A
Commitment to Community Wellness
and Health Education
Few industries
are representative of more diverse professional groups, than that
of "healthcare". Those professionals who work within
the healthcare system - while sharing the same vision of making
people well - also possess a vast wellspring of individual strengths
and special talents. Communities such as ours benefit from knowledge
gleaned from professionals from all walks of life and all professions.
Many of our local civic and school groups have expressed an interest
from time to time in tapping into this resource.
As a service
to our community, Southwest Memorial Hospital is proud to present the
introduction of its dynamic Speaker’s Bureau Program. The purpose
of the Speakers bureau is to provide educational and informational speakers
to the community to speak on health-related and other topics and provide
presentations that have the ability to improve the health status of the
community. Comprised of qualified physicians, and healthcare professionals,
this comprehensive program addresses current health care topics and trends,
as well as interesting clinical issues. In addition, a good number of
the staff have special interests and hobbies in outside activities and
are also willing to share information
In the past
several years the hospital has arranged speaking engagements and activities
for schools, businesses, civic organizations, and local government affiliations.
Some of the most recent requested topics include first aid techniques,
nutrition, caregiving, men and women’s health issues, stress management,
the Balanced Budget Act and many more. Many topics which healthcare industry
personnel take for granted on a daily basis can be shared with interested
audiences.
When the
idea of putting together a formal speaking group was first conceived each
member of the staff received a questionnaire asking for assistance of
those who would be willing to participate. The response was overwhelming
and this response is indicative of the commitment that hospital staff
members, medical staff and board members have in disseminating hospital
information to the communities served by Southwest Memorial Hospital.
Today as
we experience rapid advances in medical technology and dramatic changes
in the delivery of high quality health care, we recognize our role in
community education. As your community hospital, Southwest Memorial hospital
is pleased to provide informative speakers to meet the interests of local
organizations.
