The Southwest Memorial Hospital Foundation
The Southwest Memorial Hospital Foundation is a 501(c)3
that supports and assists the hospital in providing quality health care. Over
the years it has successfully undertaken many initiatives, including attracting
new physicians to the area, providing furnishings for the main lobby when it was
remodeled, establishing a local art collection within the hospital, purchasing
numerous pieces of new medical equipment for the hospital, and offering
scholarships to local residents seeking a career in health care.
Support your community
hospital
The Southwest Memorial Hospital Foundation is committed to aligning itself closely with the Southwest
Health System board of directors in focusing on key priorities at the hospital.
As the former nursing home has been remodeled to accommodate hospital uses,
making more clinical space available in the hospital itself, we have contributed
to new furniture for the relocated Cardiac Rehab Clinic lobby, and the new and
larger Intensive Care Unit/Family Birthing Center waiting room.
The Foundation currently manages the following restricted funds: Physician
Recruitment and Retention, Health Education Scholarships, Furnishings and
Equipment, Ambulance Replacement, and Ambulance Garage. We also maintain an
unrestricted fund, which allows us to move quickly and effectively to meet
short-term and emergency needs at the hospital.
We encourage contributions to the unrestricted fund because it can
provide the greatest benefit in the shortest timeframe, allowing the Foundation
to respond creatively and flexibly.
More than ever, the Foundation’s work is critical to the ability of Southwest
Memorial Hospital to meet the changing health care climate. Medical
reimbursements and tax dollars are not sufficient to support the first-class
facility Southwest Colorado needs and deserves, so we must reach out to
individuals and businesses for financial support as well. Donating to the
Southwest Memorial Hospital Foundation is a wise and caring community investment
that will only become more valuable with time.
Enterprise Zone
The Southwest Memorial Hospital Foundation is designated an Enterprise Zone by
the State of Colorado with two established purposes: indigent care, and
physician retention. Under the Enterprise Zone designation, the State allows a
tax credit of 25% on individual donations by state residents valued at $250 or
greater. The EZ designation also allows a tax credit to physicians of 12.5% for
certain uncompensated primary care services.
