Become a Volunteer
One of our most valuable
resources is the Southwest Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. This group of dedicated
volunteers collectively contributed more than 10,000 hours of their time during
2008 to the service and support of the hospital, its patients, and the
community. They are a diverse group with many different backgrounds,
experiences, and interests. The role of each volunteer is important as they
provide a service unique to their own life experience. They are resilient,
like-minded people β a steadfast group determined to give what they can for as
long as they are able. This is the true spirit of volunteerism!
A visitor to Southwest
Memorial Hospital will find friendly smiles and a helping hand from more than 40
volunteer members of the hospital's auxiliary. Since 1958, the Southwest Memorial Hospital Auxiliary
has played a vital role in the day-to-day operation of the hospital. Auxiliary
members contribute by transporting patients, running errands for patients,
delivering flowers and cards, working in the gift shop, providing clerical
backup, making appointments for special hospital sponsored health screenings,
delivering reading material to patients, serving beverages and myriad other
duties.
In addition to their time at the hospital, many Auxiliary members work
at home creating beautiful handmade articles which are donated to be sold in the
Auxiliary Gift Shop located in the hospital lobby.
Throughout the year there
are numerous groups and individuals who volunteer to complete special projects
for the hospital. We welcome community participation in the hospital at any
level of commitment an individual can make. Volunteering is a winning
opportunity. It is beneficial to individuals, to families, and to businesses.
But the greatest benefits are to the communities where we live and work. Call
