CEO Update from Tony
In fear of sounding like a broken record, we continue to make progress toward our goals. I know that progress can feel slow but I honestly feel we are making movement and are beginning to see results. Volumes have been good and attitudes remain positive. We have a rough few weeks ahead but as I have said before, I have no doubt this team will pull together to create a strong, financially viable organization.
This week we had several people on the ground from CHC working on specific areas of improvement. Craig Sims, SR VP of Hospital Operations and Laurie Breedlove, SR VP of Human Resources, have been on site. Craig is the person I report to at CHC, and Laurie was working with Travis on HR and productivity. Robert Michael, supply chain director at CHC and the Materials Management team from CHC will be on-site frequently to work with Tamara. This week, they have been preparing for the transition back to HPG which will be our new GPO (Group Purchasing Organization), which is basically a channel in which we are able to get the best discounts possible on 85% or more of what we buy for our operations. They can help with everything from supplies, service contracts, capital equipment, to discounts on cable TV in the patient rooms. The revenue cycle team was also on campus. We have about 12 individuals from CHC scheduled to visit over the next few weeks to work with us on moving forward with our MAP (Management Action Plan). In the MAP, we’ll address the recommendations from the operational analysis completed by CHC earlier this year. You received a copy of this in a prior weekly wrap.
As always, keep doing what you’re doing- providing high quality care to our patients, and/or supporting those who do, while keeping up the excellent attitude I’ve seen every day. I appreciate all you do.
Meet Dr. Jason Eversole
Jason Eversole, DO will join Southwest Medical Group, Primary Care in mid-August. He is certified by American Osteopathic Board of Family Physicians (ABOFP). He completed his undergrad at Oklahoma Baptist University and attended medical school at William Carey University College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed the Texoma Medical Center Family Medicine Residency Program.
Dr. Eversole joins us from Fort Worth, TX with his wife, Evie, who is a high school Spanish teacher. She also loves pottery, photography, and other artistic things. They have a 2 year old son, Levi, and a Rhodesian ridgeback named Strider. Dr. Eversole said, “We love all things outdoors as a family. Hiking, biking, climbing, running and camping are some of our favorite activities. My wife and I both played college soccer and are still fans of the sport. We enjoy good movies and fun date nights as well as making up fun new games with our son.”
When asked about his care philosophy, Dr. Eversole said,
“I want to help patients recognize the capacity that the mind and the body have to heal themselves, and to use the tools and training I have to assist in the healing process.”
Dr. Eversole is looking forward to joining the team at Southwest Medical Group. He said,
“I think medicine should be viewed as a team effort. I hope to provide care that is compassionate and sincere, recognizing that God has given me a great opportunity to be a part of people’s lives, many times during their most difficult moments.”
Dr. Eversole emphasized how excited he is to become a part of our community! Please join us in welcoming him and his family to our team!
Informatics Update with Heather Welch
Cerner Global Changes starting Monday, August 13th
This is a reminder that the next round of Global Changes in Cerner will be implemented starting Monday, August 13th. Your supervisors and SMEs/Super Users have received any slides of changes that pertain to your area and should have sent them to you by now. If you haven’t seen them – be sure to check your email. Additionally, I have made each department a binder with copies of the slides for you to review. We are still trying to work out the kinks in regards to educating everyone re: Cerner updates. If you have any ideas for improvement please let me know!
During next week, if you have any questions or concerns, you can reach out to your supervisor and/or SME/Super User. I am also available to assist you with questions you may have. Please note that Cerner implements the changes in a test environment first and tries to work out any kinks; however, until we go live, we cannot guarantee that everything will work as it should. Be on the lookout for any “breaks” in the system and notify me as soon as you discover any glitches so that we can investigate and correct them as soon as possible. Southwest Respiratory Therapist achieves RPSGT credential
Congrats to Lily Gonzales, RRT on passing the Sleep Medicine Boards. Lily will have a new credential, RPSGT, registered polysomnographic technologist. Lily works in Cardiopulmonary as a registered respiratory therapist (RRT). Her dual credential allows her to practice in both sleep and respiratory medicine, a valuable benefit to our patients. Please join us in congratulating her!

Huge strides made in up-front collections
As of 8/9/2018, registration has collected $223,576 since Oct 1st 2017 – over $20,000+ per month.
Chris Alvarez, registration supervisor, would like to extend a big congratulations and thank you to all Registration Staff, Lab Staff and Karen in Physical Therapy for the wonderful job they have done with this new process.

Here’s a great story to make the point:
In 1969 when the US was planning a trip to the moon, the major TV networks had crews stationed at NASA headquarters in Houston, Texas, to cover the lead up to the launch. One day the reporters and camera crews had some down time while waiting for the NASA officials to arrive at the press room. As they passed the time milling about the halls, someone noticed a janitor coming toward them with a broom and thought, “Well, nothing else to do, why don’t we film some ‘B’ footage to have on hand.” A reporter happened to have a microphone handy, so he said to the approaching janitor: “So, what’s your job at NASA?”
As the story goes, the fellow paused, leaned on his broom, looked thoughtfully into the camera and said, “My job is to help us get to the moon.” He then picked up his broom and went on his way.
As a team, let’s reach for the moon!!!!

Back to School Supplies – Donation drive for all preschool through 12th grade students
Imagine a youngster starting the school year without a new backpack or even basic school supplies. Many parents struggle to afford these items. Montezuma Early Childhood Council is collecting supplies to distribute to families in Montezuma County at the 3rd Thursday Event on August 16.
HOW YOU CAN HELP:

- Sponsor a child. $25 provides supplies and a new backpack for one child and $250 provides for 10 children.
- Volunteer. Sort donated supplies in August or help on distribution day.
